Eran los primeros pasos de la tele a color en Shile (que nos llegó bastante atrasada, pa' variar) y entretanto aparece este concurso que se podrÃa calificar de ingenuo incluso. Hoy por hoy, hacer un concurso en donde hay que unir palabras no aguantarÃa más de 5 minutos en pantalla. ¡Unir palabras! No habÃa ruletas con parafernalia, no habÃa imitadores, no habÃa programas de talentos. Era tan simple como unir palabras. Está claro que posiblemente pasó sin pena ni gloria, pero hoy lo traigo como un rescate.
Cada concurso tenÃa su jingle... claro, no auspiciado como en Sábados Gigantes. Y cada jingle no podÃa ser más simple: ¡el nombre del concurso! Al ver esto hoy, posiblemente nos cueste entender que la gente se haya divertido con esto. Los intermedios con las "secretarias" y sus lycras multicolores podrÃan considerarse hoy como bizarros. Pero era común eso, al menos por unos 5 años desde la aparición del color en la TV chilena: hacer notar por todos los medios que se pueda, que se trata de un moderno programa a color. Muchos siguieron la tendencia: los trajes de Maluenda en el Festival de la Una, las esponjas de los micrófonos, de colores naranja, azul, amarillo... Escenarios con luces de todos los colores. Era la locura por el color. Pero volvamos al año de esto: 1979. Los concursantes más jóvenes son una pareja de universitarios. Calculemos 25 años (por poner una edad) en 1979. De eso han pasado ¡34 años! Con esto su edad quedarÃa en 59 años actuales. Por tanto se puede deducir que todos los concursantes, las "secretarias", el notario (que era muy usado antes y que aparte de hablar 3 segundos no hacÃa nada más), y para qué decir del tÃo Javier y su compañera, hoy son abuelos.
La tele era harto más inocente por esos tiempos. En varias partes el video está editado y más aún no está el programa completo, lo que da a entender que tuvieron que hacer esa mutilación para adaptarse a los tiempos de hoy. Talvez para los estándares actuales esto no califique como diversión. Al
igual que las rutinas de los antiguos cómicos, el antiguo matinal del
11, y varios ejemplos más. Este video lo obtuve en su tiempo del portal Todo13. Hoy voy a ver y está como medio abandonado, a medio morir saltando y me fue imposible ponerle play a ninguno de los videos. Por suerte me acordé que tenÃa este video guardado y nunca lo compartÃ.
Esto es una combinación de rareza, mala gestión de proyecto y desilusión. Eran los años 60s y dentro de la RCA desarrollaban lo que serÃa el siguiente paso de los formatos de video pregrabado, más aún, con la idea de llevarlo a las casas de la gente, algo que en esos años era muy incipiente, toda vez que los formatos de video casero que finalmente aparecieron lo hicieron durantre los setentas, con la guerra de formatos entre el VHS de JVC y el Betamax de Sony. Y ya sabemos quién ganó. Pero la famosa "guerra de los formatos" por ahora no viene al caso. O talvez sÃ.
El desarrollo del CED ("Capacitance Electronic Disc") comenzó en 1964 como una suerte de paso natural desde la grabación de audio a la de video, usando discos muy similares a los vinilos o "long-play" de la época. Luego de probar, el disco final fue fabricado a base de PVC con carbón, para hacerlo conductivo, y con una capa de silicona sobre el disco para preservar tanto el disco como el "stylus" (como le llamó RCA y que jamás lo consideró como una simple aguja).
En 1972 el proyecto habÃa conseguido crear un disco capaz de contener 10 minutos de imagen en color con sonido, pero todavÃa era insuficiente, sin contar con problemas en los materiales usados, los que lo hacÃan un medio muy poco fiable aún. Ya en 1977, año en que finalmente se planeaba lanzar el producto al mercado, no pudieron: se dieron cuenta que aún con la protección de silicona los discos se deterioraban por la manipulación, con lo cual inventaron una caja delgada a manera de sobre rÃgido ("caddy") dentro de la cual se encontraba el disco y que incluso terminó facilitando el uso de éstos. Ya nada más se necesitaba introducir el caddy en el aparato, sacarlo, y ya el disco se encontraba dentro del reproductor, listo para ser reproducido.
El primer modelo que salió a la venta fue el SFT100W o, para los amigos, SFT100 (en la foto). Y salió a la venta ¡en 1981, 17 años después del comienzo de su desarrollo! Luego, en 1983 aparecieron dos modelos más, ahora con capacidad de sonido stereo. El catalogo inicial era de 50 tÃtulos, el cual naturalmente que se incrementó con el tiempo.
El sistema funcionaba leyendo el disco desde el borde hasta el centro, al igual que los vinilos, pero el principio de funcionamiento del famoso "stylus" era distinto, ya que, mientras la aguja de fonógrafo leÃa vibraciones que se transformaban en la música que uno escucha, el stylus además de vibraciones leÃa señales eléctricas (de ahà el hacer que el disco fuera conductivo). En cada vuelta eran almacenados 3 o 4 cuadros (según el estandar de color sea PAL o NTSC, respectivamente). La calidad final de la imagen era comparable a la mejor calidad obtenible desde un cassette VHS o Betamax, pero lejos de lo que brinda un LaserDisc, lo más avanzado a fines de los 70s. Todos estos formatos, aún 100% análogos.
Estos discos... tenÃan las ventajas de todos los discos, no requerÃan rebobinar, la búsqueda era rápida, pudiendo llegar a un capÃtulo dado y pudiendo pausar, aunque, por limitaciones de la época, no quedaba el cuadro congelado en pantalla sino que sólo una pantalla negra. Pero también tenÃan desventajas... casi las mismas desventajas de los discos de vinilo de audio: al ser un medio de contacto, sufrÃan deterioro con el tiempo, sin contar que simples pelusas de polvo podÃan hacer que los discos se "saltaran". Como cada lado del disco sólo podÃa almacenar hasta 1 hora de video, habÃa que dar vuelta el disco en mitad de la pelÃcula. Y cómo se hacÃa: se manipulaba la palanca lateral, se introducÃa el caddy, el aparato devolvÃa el disco dentro del caddy, el usuario volteaba el caddy, lo introducÃa nuevamente en el aparato, la palanca otra vez y el disco quedaba montado nuevamente en el aparato para ver la "segunda parte" de la pelÃcula. Simple pero molesto. Y lo obvio, eran más grandes que los videotapes que ya al momento del lanzamiento del CED ("SelectaVision" como los llamó RCA, luego simplemente "VideoDisc") ocupaban un pedazo de torta de mercado muy considerable (por no decir dominante).
El final de la historia es triste (¿se podÃa esperar otra cosa?). Ya en 1984 RCA anuncia que el formato fue un fracaso y que a contar de ese año se detendrÃa la fabricación de los reproductores. Extrañamente, a partir de ese momento, la venta de los discos aumentó al doble de lo esperado, tras lo cual se anunció que los discos seguirÃan fabricándose por 3 años más. Más extraño, luego de este último anuncio, las ventas de los discos se desplomaron. Entonces RCA decidió cancelar la fabricación de los discos tras sólo 2 años, en 1986. El último tÃtulo, "Memories of VideoDisc", editado ese año, fue entregado a trabajadores y otros involucrados en el desarrollo del formato.
Este formato de videodisco jamás llegó a Latinoamérica ni a gran parte del mundo. Sólo fue vendido en Estados Unidos, Japón y algunos paÃses de Europa. Y como el 99% de las rarezas, entusiastas del formato lo han transformado en objeto de culto y han subido bastante material a YouTube.

Este fue un video promocional de una nueva grabadora de videocassette de RCA, pero que sin embargo fue grabado en CED. Es un video largo, y no es necesario verlo completo por cierto, porque ya al minuto y medio se empiezan a notar los saltos en la imágen producto del desgaste o suciedad de estos discos. Lamentable.

Jean-Jacques Bortolai nació en Toulon en noviembre de 1956. Y quizás esto sea lo que más se recuerda de él. Esta canción la presentó en francés representando a Mónaco en el festival Eurovisión de 1969, con sólo 12 años, no existiendo prácticamente ningún antecedente en la historia de dicho festival en recibir un concursante tan joven. Pese a no ganar el festival (quedó sexto de entre 16), grabó posteriormente el tema en otros 3 idiomas además del francés (alemán, español e italiano).

Eran mediados de los 80s, y Soprole dominaba el mercado del yoghurt con su "lo podemos lograr". A mediados de los 80s aún no existÃa el yoghurt Nestlé y Yely estaba en decadencia (¿Se me olvida alguna? ¡Abajito en la cajita de comentarios!). Pero habÃa otra marca que en su tiempo era la única que le podÃa hacer algo de competencia: Dannon. Aunque en Chile no era más que una franquicia en poder de Loncoleche y licenciada por la Dannon gringa. De ahà lo secundaria de la marca Dannon. Si no quieres que se te meta competencia, pues compra su marca. Dannon a su vez era la continuadora de Danone en América, la cual huyó a nuestro continente por asuntos de la guerra y se cambió efectivamente el nombre a Dannon, para hacerla más gringa. Pero tanta historia no viene al caso.
Este era uno de esos concursos con los que los cabros chicos rallaban la papa. Uno de los cuantos. Aunque debo decir que Soprole era la reina de los concursos (y sin mencionar los de las tapitas en Sabados Gigantes). Dannon en este concurso regalaba toda suerte de chiches electrónicos, algunos más tradicionales como televisores (ignoro si eran a colores) y otras cosas como Ataris (mencionados no por su marca, pero sà como "los computadores del futuro"), televisores portátiles (¡a pila, una novedad en su tiempo!) y juegos electrónicos, como los que traÃan los relojes digitales Casio pero más grandes. Y el gran premio era un automóvil "computarizado", el cual me tinca que era un simple automóvil con un aparato con botones que hubo de servir para alguna cosa, un juego, un reloj, pero sin niguna conexión con el funcionamiento del auto, toda vez que los verdaderos computadores en conexión con el funcionamiento de los autos son algo muy reciente. Seguramente el singular accesorio futurista estaba influÃdo por lo que estaba de moda, el DeLorean de Back To The Future (que sà era computarizado de verdad... pero era ciencia ficción).
Sin más, el comercial de marras. El jingle, también, estaba "inspirado" en una canción de moda ("Wake Me Up, Before You Go-Go", del grupo Wham).
No existÃan los pseudo yogurts, ni los griegos, ni los para el tránsito lento ni los con probióticos. Pero los cabros chicos alucinaban.
La marca Dannon, unos años después, nos deja el recuerdo del ya clásico Danonino "Fue el peyo, mami". Loncoleche la usó un rato más y después chao. Hasta que varios años después, la misma Danone (ahora con el nombre europeo), compra en el 2007 una láctea en el sur (en Chillán, para ser más exactos) y se instala como tal.

Nancy nació en 1940 en New Yersey y como muchos sabrán (o talvez pocos, no sé) es hija de uno de los grandes de la música (y no me las doy de Eva Gómez) Frank Sinatra, de su matrimonio con su primera esposa, que también se llamaba Nancy, pero Nancy Barbato, a diferencia de su hija, Nancy Sandra. Comenzó su carrera en 1960, luego de estudiar música, danza y canto en la Universidad de California, estudios que abandonó luego de un año.
Su debut fue en el especial musical de TV estelarizado por su padre y que fue realizado a propósito del regreso de Elvis Presley desde Europa (luego de hacer su servicio militar), y donde ella fue la encargada de "ir a recibirlo" al aeropuerto. Pero su debut en los discos fue en 1961, firmando contrato con Reprise, la misma casa disquera de su papito. Su primer single, "Cuff Links and a Tie Clip", pasó sin pena ni gloria y nadie supo mucho de éste. La situación no cambiaba mucho. La ventaja/estigma de ser "la hija de" casi no tenÃa influencia, ni para mejor, ni para peor. HabÃa logrado relativo éxito en Europa y Japón, pero en Gringolandia, poco y nada.
Era 1965 y estuvo a punto de terminar siendo nada en lo artÃstico, cuando llegó un señor de nombre Lee Hazlewood, productor, escritor y compositor, el cual con ya 10 años de circo se encargó de tomar a la Nancy de fama discreta y transformarla, en imagen y propuesta musical en un éxito internacional. "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'" fue el single debut de su "segundo aire" y lo que en definitiva terminó salvando su carrera. AsÃ, con varios temas en los rankings, los años 1966 y 1967 fueron especialmente exitosos e intensos en su carrera. Incluso, durante esta época, le correspondió viajar a Vietnam para entretener a las tropas, y fue tal el impacto que "These Boots..." tuvo, que terminó siendo para las tropas casi un himno (usté ya se podrá imaginar por qué, ya que fue fácil que la letra cobrara un sentido acorde a la guerra, o sea las botas están hechas para caminar... y van a caminar sobre tÃ... el enemigo). Todo esto pese a que luego grabara canciones de temática anti-guerra.
Como curiosidad, en 1967 realizó un especial musical de TV llamado "Movin' With Nancy", en donde en una de las escenas besó a Sammy Davis Jr., lo cual causó una no menor controversia en su época, y era de suponerse por tratarse de uno de los primeros besos "interraciales" emitido por TV. Nancy restó impacto al asunto señalando que se trató de un beso "espontáneo y fuera de libreto". Y como mini-curiosidad, el espacio fue auspiciado por RC Cola (ya hablamos de esa bebida antes aquÃ... ¿recuerda?), con la singular condición de que Nancy apareciera en dos spots publicitarios durante la emisión del show (los cuales querido pipiripaÃto podrá encontrar aquà y aquÃ).

La historia de este canal fue tanto corta como triste y con mala suerte. Ya en 2007 escribÃa en este mismo espacio como el canal habÃa iniciado una partida en falso. Pero el cuento viene de más atrás.
Las primeras emisiones experimentales fueron un poco antes, no sé si el año anterior, la verdad ya no lo recuerdo. Ni siquiera se hacÃa llamar "Canal 54" aún. La señal pasaba clips urbanos de realización propia, identificándose como "Chile TeVe", el cual era el nombre de la productora, la cual era de propiedad mayoritaria de la corredora de bolsa Raimundo Serrano McAuliffe (la cual con el tiempo jugará un rol no muy afortunado en nuestra historia), quienes además de la productora poseÃan la agencia periodÃstica NexChannel, el proyecto inmobiliario Santiago Downtown y la empresa "Televisión América S. A." que era la concesionaria ante SUBTEL del canal 54. Las transmisiones se originaban en un puñado de oficinas adaptadas como estudios de TV en la mismÃsima Bolsa de Comercio de Santiago y desde ahà enlazaban a la planta transmisora en el Cerro Chena de San Bernardo. Su señal se podÃa captar con mediana dificultad en Santiago sur. De hecho, recuerdo haber podido sintonizar la señal del entonces "Chile TeVe" un sábado en la mañana desde Puente Alto y la potencia era bastante pobre.
Pero las verdaderas transmisiones de prueba comenzaron en marzo del 2007, prometiendo en su publicidad el inicio oficial de las transmisiones para el 9 de abril. La propuesta era generalista, alternativa, pero ambiciosa. Tanto asà que fue promocionado insistentemente a través de las pantallas del canal interno del Metro de Santiago (Sub TV en ese tiempo, hoy Metro TV), además de poner avisos en prensa escrita. TodavÃa existÃa la duda de si podrÃan llegar en buenas condiciones a todo Santiago (aún su antena estaba en el Cerro Chena), por lo cual esa señal experimental no duró mucho tiempo al aire y fue suspendida. El 9 de abril llegó y el inicio oficial no fue. Y hasta fiesta de inauguración hubo, en el Castillo Hidalgo del Cerro Santa LucÃa, donde asistieron la no menor cantidad de 700 invitados, entre trabajadores, agencias de publicidad, áreas de marketing de potenciales avisadores, yada, yada, yada...
Tras esto, la señal de aire desapareció y sólo se emitieron promos a través de su señal online. La planta transmisora fue trasladada al San Cristóbal, tras lo cual, ya a fines de año, salió al aire la segunda etapa experimental, primero con carta de ajuste y luego con las mismas promos de la señal online, para finalmente salir al aire oficialmente el 17 de diciembre de 2007... ¡ocho meses después de lo anunciado! No pocas veces al pasar por la entrada del canal, en la calle La Bolsa, por las tardes se veÃan uno que otro "rostro" o trabajador del canal matando el tiempo.
Era tan ambiciosa la propuesta que se llevaron a rostros como el periodista Juan Manuel Astorga, el músico Claudio Narea, el actor Ramón Llao, la actriz Gloria Laso y, aunque menos conocido, el actor Santiago Tupper. Con ellos compartÃan señal otros rostros "emergentes" como Francisco Araya, RocÃo Peralta y otros que nunca se imaginaron tener un programa en TV como los mediáticamente desconocidos Janet Spröhnle y Gustavo Poblete. Pero habÃa algo raro en el aire. Ya en un medio escrito, MarÃa Isabel Alliende, que era parte de la plana directiva del nuevo canal y que antes habÃa pasado por La RED y TVN, manifestó que "el mayor temor es que no nos vea nadie". Y no era menos cierto: aunque habÃan cambiado el lugar desde donde se origina la señal 54 al San Cristóbal, la potencia de ésta aún era deficiente y sin considerar que no estaban en ninguna compañÃa de cable, lo cual hoy por hoy es fundamental para que te vean (y no por nada en este año los ejecutivos tras el nuevo canal 3TV de COPESA se preocuparon de este aspectoantes de salir al aire en las próximas semanas).
Y comenzó el canal. Cuando aún no agarraba suficiente vuelo, el canal es refundado en julio de 2008 como LIV TV. Los encargados de la nueva imagen corporativa fueron publicistas de la agencia La Firma. Según un video en YouTube (borrado), el origen del nombre viene del número 54 escrito en romano ("LIV"), lo cual, además de dar la idea de "vivo" hacÃa sentido para echar mano a un canal que permanecÃa en su bajo perfil y tratar de revivirlo un poco. Entonces se llevaron al barco a José Miguel Villouta y al comentarista Eduardo Bonvallet. Ambos conducÃan su propio programa cada uno, desde los estudios de TV de la Universidad del PacÃfico.
Pero la fortuna no estuvo de parte del canal. La sociedad controladora de la estación, la corredora Raimundo Serrano McAuliffe, fue multada por malversación de fondos, tras lo cual, y en vista de su debacle financiera influida por la crisis del 2008, se declaró en quiebra. Todas las empresas bajo el paraguas de la corredora se ponen en venta, incluyendo el canal. Uno de los interesados es Hilario, un conglomerado portugués. Sin embargo se dice que aún está en manos de una junta de acreedores, en definitiva los propietarios de la sociedad Televisión América, concesionaria de la señal. Ellos a los pocos meses terminan definitivamente con lo que habÃa sido LIV TV hasta ese momento, en que sólo habÃa repeticiones de programación propia además de envasados externos, para reemplazar todo eso por el contenido basura que tiene en la actualidad, o sea infomerciales, videoclips, espacios arrendados a pastores evangélicos y "médicos" naturistas vendedores de "pomadas". Actualmente un porcentaje minoritario de sus acciones (5%) está en manos del "cuestionable" "locutor" Omár "Omarcito" Gárate, luego de haber aceptado comprar parte del 10% de la señal a la familia Malatesta (antiguos dueños de Radio Colo-Colo), que según "Omarcito" se las ofrecieron 10 años atrás, lo cual claramente es mentira ya que el canal comenzó en 2007. Este "emprendedor" pensaba para fines del 2012 comprar las acciones restantes del canal y hacerlo un canal popular con una "lÃnea editorial" distinta a las demás estaciones. Estamos en el 2013 y al parecer no pasó nada. Y sobre el "canal popular", son planes que siguen en las mejores fantasÃas del creador de "la pulserita".
La puerta de La Bolsa 80, hace un par de años al menos que está tapiada. ¿Desde dónde emiten? Beto.

Las primeras emisiones experimentales fueron un poco antes, no sé si el año anterior, la verdad ya no lo recuerdo. Ni siquiera se hacÃa llamar "Canal 54" aún. La señal pasaba clips urbanos de realización propia, identificándose como "Chile TeVe", el cual era el nombre de la productora, la cual era de propiedad mayoritaria de la corredora de bolsa Raimundo Serrano McAuliffe (la cual con el tiempo jugará un rol no muy afortunado en nuestra historia), quienes además de la productora poseÃan la agencia periodÃstica NexChannel, el proyecto inmobiliario Santiago Downtown y la empresa "Televisión América S. A." que era la concesionaria ante SUBTEL del canal 54. Las transmisiones se originaban en un puñado de oficinas adaptadas como estudios de TV en la mismÃsima Bolsa de Comercio de Santiago y desde ahà enlazaban a la planta transmisora en el Cerro Chena de San Bernardo. Su señal se podÃa captar con mediana dificultad en Santiago sur. De hecho, recuerdo haber podido sintonizar la señal del entonces "Chile TeVe" un sábado en la mañana desde Puente Alto y la potencia era bastante pobre.
